Chantal Philippon-Daniel holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Orléans, France, and a Master of Arts degree in American Studies (History and Film Studies) from the University of Alabama. Her pedagogical and professional interests include the development of intercultural competence and the practice of translation. The materials and activities in her courses are based on a variety of authentic French-language media and digital communication tools and are designed to foster language proficiency and cross-cultural understanding. She has presented on these teaching practices at regional conferences. The recipient of four SAS Language Teaching Innovation Grants, including the Best Project Prize in 2009, she has also received a departmental award for Excellence in Teaching. She regularly teaches the following upper-level courses: Advanced French Composition and Conversation “Contemporary French society through its media,” “France & the European Union,” and “Advanced French Translation”.
